Tubular tires are a special kind of tire in which the tube is sewn into the tire casing and finished with a base tape. Tubulars are glued to tubular-specific rims with a special cement. Tubulars have a long history and are nowadays mainly used for road, cyclocross and track bikes. They have excellent handling characteristics, great rolling resistance, decent puncture protection and can be inflated to higher pressures. The best tires are traditional, hand-made tubulars from renowned manufacturers Challenge, Vittoria, Schwalbe and Continental. Czech Tufo tubulars are also excellent.
