All 2117 clothing is equipped with ultra-thin DWR material treatment, a durable, water-repellent polymer. It is applied to the outer fabric. Water droplets form on the surface of the fabric, causing them to roll off rather than soak in. DWR is PFC-free, as perfluorinated chemicals are harmful to the environment and human beings.
Spandex, Lycra or elastane are synthetic fibers known for their exceptional elasticity. It is stronger and more durable than natural rubber. It is a polyester-polyurethane copolymer that was invented in 1958 by chemist Joseph Shivers at DuPont's Benger Laboratory in Waynesboro, Virginia.
