The Campagnolo EKAR 13sp. cassette is built on 2 separate blocks. The first (smaller) block consists of 4 sprockets, while the second block contains the remaining 9 sprockets.
Two materials are used in the production of the cassettes: the sprocket carriers are made from a lightweight aluminum alloy, and the toothed parts of the sprockets are made from a special heat-treated carbon steel with a Nickel-Chrome surface treatment, which significantly reduces friction while providing optimal durability for gravel riding.
Two of the three cassette combinations offered start with a 9-tooth sprocket. Extensive comparative tests have shown that using a 9-tooth sprocket is as effective as using any 10 or 11-speed sprocket. Therefore, there's no need to worry about increased friction. With a 9-tooth sprocket, you won't lose any output power!
EKAR cassettes are designed exclusively to fit the brand new freehub body labeled N3W. This freehub has the same splines as Campagnolo 9s/10s/11s/12s cassettes, but it is 4.4 mm shorter and, thus, lighter. Currently, it should be used exclusively with the carbon spoked wheels Shamal Carbon C21.
