Description

The Cervélo R5 is a road frameset designed for building a race bike with electronic shifting. It targets experienced riders who focus on weight, power transfer, and precise handling on climbs. It’s a higher-performance frame platform intended for modern road builds.

Frame and geometry

The frame is made from a carbon composite and is designed exclusively for electronic shifting, so it does not account for routing mechanical cables. The set includes a Cervélo All-Carbon carbon fork with a tapered steerer tube, which increases front-end stiffness. The FSA SL IS2 headset uses 1-1/4" upper and 1-1/2" lower dimensions for more precise steering. The frameset is available in size 51 and uses 12 mm thru-axles front and rear.

Components

Drivetrain: The frameset is ready for electronic shifting road groupsets. The specific number of speeds, cassette, and bottom bracket are not included in the package.

Brakes: The frame and fork are designed for disc brakes on a road bike. Rotor diameter depends on the chosen build specification.

Wheels and tires: Wheel compatibility is determined by the use of Cervélo Aero Thru Axles. Wheel size and tire model are selected based on the intended use and braking setup.

Cockpit: The package includes Cervélo HB18 carbon handlebars and a carbon stem for more integrated routing and a cleaner front end. It also includes a Cervélo SP33 carbon seatpost; the saddle is chosen during the build.

Ride characteristics

The R5 carbon frame is built for efficient power transfer, which is most noticeable when riding out of the saddle and on long climbs. The fork’s tapered steerer and the headset dimensions increase steering support under braking and during quick direction changes. The 12 mm thru-axles stabilize the wheel-to-frame connection and maintain geometry under cornering loads. The all-carbon cockpit adds precision at the hands and reduces micro-movements around the stem area.
