Giant Contend AR 2 is a versatile road bike for smooth asphalt as well as rougher surfaces, where comfort and confident handling make the difference. It sits in a more affordable performance category, with an emphasis on modern disc brakes and wider tubeless tires. It’s well suited for endurance rides, training, and longer commutes on broken-up roads.
At its core is an ALUXX aluminum-alloy frame with a 12x142 mm thru-axle and disc brake mounts. Cable routing is integrated, and the seat clamp is designed as part of the frame. The fork is Advanced-grade composite with a full-composite OverDrive steerer and a 12x100 mm thru-axle. The Contend AR concept targets a more comfort-oriented road geometry for stability at higher speeds and on rougher asphalt.
Drivetrain: Shimano CUES U6030 shifting runs a 2x10 setup. Shimano FC-U6030-2 34/50 crankset is paired with a Shimano CS-LG400 11–39 cassette and a Shimano BB-RS501 bottom bracket.
Brakes: Shimano BR-U6030 disc brakes use Giant MPH rotors. Rotor size is 160 mm front and 160 mm rear.
Wheels and tires: Giant S-R2 Disc wheels are aluminum and run on Giant hubs for thru-axles. Giant Gavia Fondo 2 tires are tubeless in 700x32c.
Cockpit: Giant Connect handlebars and a Giant Sport stem are sized according to the frame size. The composite Giant D-Fuse seatpost has a 14 mm offset, complemented by a Giant Approach saddle.
The aluminum frame with thru-axles holds its line under power and helps guide the bike precisely through fast sections. The composite fork with an OverDrive steerer damps high-frequency vibrations from the front wheel. Tubeless 700x32c tires increase comfort and grip on rough asphalt. Disc brakes with 160 mm rotors provide consistent modulation even in wet conditions.
The Contend AR 2 is aimed at experienced road riders who want a training bike for mixed surfaces without stepping into the gravel category. It’s a great fit for endurance riding, quick spins, and all-day routes on rougher asphalt. Compared to pure race road bikes, it offers more tire clearance and a calmer, more stable feel in handling.
The D-Fuse seatpost was designed to absorb road shocks and vibrations so you can ride farther, faster. It works by slightly springing the seat post under load, thanks to its specific "D" shape.
The oversized fork steerer aims to increase the stiffness of the front of the frameset and steering for precise control. Oversized headset bearings (bottom 1 1/4" and top 1 1/8" on road bikes and bottom 1 1/2" and top 1 1/8" on MTB bikes) and tapered fork steerer are included for optimal steering stiffness .
High-performance raw carbon material with a high stiffness-to-weight ratio is used to produce the custom Advanced Composite material. The front triangle of the frame is assembled and molded as one continuous piece (monocoque) using a proprietary manufacturing process called Modified Monocoque Construction.
