System Optimization
The frame set, wheels, cockpit, and other components are designed, developed, and tested together to work best as one system. The all-new OverDrive Aero steering system, along with the Contact SL AeroLight stem and Contact SLR or Contact SL handlebars (depending on the model), offers a perfect solution for internal cable routing, while integrating the top cap and spacers into a more aerodynamic and user-friendly whole.

Integrated Aerodynamics
The shapes of all tubes are designed and developed using CFD modeling (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and wind tunnel testing. From the design of the frame tubes in a truncated ellipse shape to the new cockpit design and component integration – all contribute to streamlining the profile, which compared to the previous generation improves overall aerodynamic performance.
High-performance raw carbon material with a high stiffness-to-weight ratio is used to produce the custom Advanced Composite material. The front triangle of the frame is assembled and molded as one continuous piece (monocoque) using a proprietary manufacturing process called Modified Monocoque Construction.
Compact Road revolutionized the look and feel of high-performance road bikes forever. A downward sloping toptube (from the headtube to the seattube) creates smaller front and rear triangles for a lighter, stiffer bike. It also makes it easier for riders of all sizes to have a perfect fit.
A D-shaped fork steerer passes through the head tube of the new Propel and Defy ranges. Together with corresponding spacers, they form an extremely aerodynamic and easy-to-service system of internally routed brake and derailleur cables.
A massively oversized bottom-bracket/chainstay area features a fully integrated, 86-millimeter wide bottom-bracket design (92-millimeter wide for off-road bikes). Asymmetric chainstays provide additional stiffness on the driveside and stability on the non-driveside.
