We have redesigned our typically sprinter model to achieve optimized aerodynamic performance, a better stiffness-to-weight ratio, and the maximum number of victories.
Optimized Aerodynamics
In our quest for maximum performance and efficiency, we analyze how the bike and rider experience airflow at every speed and direction, both on a computer and in a wind tunnel. The EnviLiv model features a special frame tube profile shaped like a truncated ellipse. Noteworthy is also the Contact SL Aero cockpit with flattened tops and deeper curves, which not only reduces air resistance for overall better aero performance but also improves handling.
Sprint Efficiency
Aerodynamics are influenced by many factors, two of which often contradict each other: stiffness and weight. However, the EnviLiv model has found the ideal balance thanks to the carbon frame and fork made of Advanced Composite material, which positively impacted the weight – compared to the previous generation of the EnviLiv Advanced model, we managed to save 292 grams.
Perfect Integration
When every second matters, every detail matters too. Routing cables through the handlebars, stem, and frame improves aerodynamic performance and also makes it easier to disassemble the bike for travel or maintenance. Two aerodynamic water bottle cages integrate perfectly with the seat tube and down tube, further reducing air resistance.
A massively oversized bottom-bracket/chainstay area features a fully integrated, 86-millimeter wide bottom-bracket design (92-millimeter wide for off-road bikes). Asymmetric chainstays provide additional stiffness on the driveside and stability on the non-driveside.
A D-shaped fork steerer passes through the head tube of the new Propel and Defy ranges. Together with corresponding spacers, they form an extremely aerodynamic and easy-to-service system of internally routed brake and derailleur cables.
High-performance raw carbon material with a high stiffness-to-weight ratio is used to produce the custom Advanced Composite material. The front triangle of the frame is assembled and molded as one continuous piece (monocoque) using a proprietary manufacturing process called Modified Monocoque Construction.
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) research and wind tunnel test data have provided insights that have been used to optimize the shape of the frame tubes and their connections to give the frame the best possible aerodynamic properties.
