Nukeproof Cub-Scout 16 kids’ bike Red is a children’s mountain bike on 16" wheels, designed as a mini MTB for first rides off-road. It sits in the higher technical class of kids’ bikes, where weight, handling, and functional components are key. The single-speed setup with disc brakes is aimed at riders who already pedal independently.
The frame is made from 6061-T6 aluminium alloy with butted tubing, reducing weight while maintaining stiffness. The rigid fork uses the same material and a straight steerer for precise tracking. The geometry is trail-oriented with a 67.5° head angle, so the bike remains stable even on rough surfaces. For the 16" size it has a 277.95 mm reach and 297 mm chainstays, which helps with lifting the front wheel more easily.
Drivetrain: The single-speed 25x14T gearing keeps operation simple and reduces maintenance demands. The KMC Z1 Wide chain works with a single-speed system without a front derailleur.
Brakes: Clarks mechanical disc brakes are controlled by Tektro JL352-rs short-reach levers. The rotors are 160 mm up front and 140 mm at the rear.
Wheels and tires: The built wheels use 16" rims with 20 spokes up front and 24 spokes at the rear. Vee Rubber 16x2.25" Crown Gem tires add volume and grip on dirt.
Cockpit: Nukeproof handlebars are 500 mm wide with a 25.4 mm clamp diameter. A Nukeproof 27.2x250 mm seatpost is paired with a Nukeproof kids’ saddle and grips with a 19 mm diameter.
The combination of a rigid aluminium frame and rigid fork transfers power to the ground without losses, which is important with short cranks and small wheels. The slacker head angle increases stability on descents and in rougher terrain. The short rear end supports agility at low speeds and easier cornering. The wide 2.25" tires improve traction and damp vibrations on gravel.
The bike is aimed at children from around age 5, 105 to 120 cm tall, who are moving up from a balance bike or a smaller bike. It’s suitable for family rides, forest paths, and first simple trails where disc braking makes sense. Compared to typical kids’ bikes with rim brakes, it adds more control in wet conditions and mud.
