Description

Nukeproof Cub-Scout 16 kids’ bike Yellow is a children’s mountain bike with 16" wheels for first rides off-road, on a pump track, and on paved paths. The design is aimed at children from around 5 years old and 105–120 cm tall who are moving up from a balance bike or a smaller bike. The spec focuses on a simple single-speed drivetrain and disc brakes for precise modulation.

Frame and geometry

The frame is made from an aluminum alloy and uses a low standover height for easy mounting and confidence when stopping. The geometry is tuned for stability at lower speeds and predictable handling on gravel and light trails. The frame is compatible with training wheels if the child is still fine-tuning their balance. The bike is supplied in a yellow finish.

Components

Drivetrain: Single-speed gearing Single Speed Kids 25×14T with no derailleur. Shorter cranks are used to suit children’s legs.

Brakes: Tektro JL352-rs disc brakes with 160 mm rotor up front and 140 mm at the rear. The levers are sized for smaller children’s hands.

Wheels and tires: Lightweight wheelset with 16H / 20H lacing in a 16" diameter. Vee Rubber 16×2.25" tires support traction on dirt and gravel.

Cockpit: Nukeproof handlebars are 500 mm wide with a 25 mm rise. The Nukeproof stem is 40 mm long, complemented by kids’ grips, a kids’ saddle, and an adjustable seatpost.

Ride characteristics

The aluminum frame and short cockpit support quick responses when maneuvering and make it easier to hold a line at low speeds. The single-speed drivetrain simplifies operation and keeps the child’s attention on balance and braking. The combination of disc brakes and kids’ levers improves control on descents and on slippery surfaces. The 16×2.25" tires add grip and smooth out small bumps on farm tracks.
