The warm Salewa Ortles Durastretch Merino women’s softshell gloves with leather palm and Merino lining are suitable for mountaineering, skiing, and hiking.
The outer layer is made of durable, waterproof softshell. The palm of the gloves is reinforced with goat leather. The heat retention is further ensured by Alpine Merino Responsive lining. The cut of the gloves is designed specifically for women's hands. The anatomically shaped fingers ensure further manual dexterity.
The gloves are very warm and breathable at the same time. The softshell layer is DWR coated.
100% goat leather palm
The primary glove material is Durastretch Ripstop Wool (85% Polyamide, 9% Wool, 6% Elastane).
The Alpine Wool Responsive lining then consists of 78% Merino wool and 22% Polyamide.
Ripstop is a fabric with high strength, made using a special technique. Thin threads are woven into the fabric at a distance of 5-8 mm, giving it a articulated structure. This provides increased tear strength. In practice, it works by causing the tear to jam against the reinforced fibers which prevent it from continuing. Ripstop was developed in the USA during the Second World War for parachutes.
Merino is a breed or group of breeds of domestic sheep, characterized by a very fine soft wool. Garments made from this wool are very comfortable and non-scratchy. The structure of the fibre and the weaving technology create multiple "air pockets" and thus guarantee thermal comfort of the wearer. The pockets keep the air warm on the body and create very effective insulation. An important characteristic of Merino is also neutralisation of sweat and elimination of odour, which is why Merino wool is often used in winter sportswear.
Durable Water Repellent (DWR) is a durable coating added to fabrics at the factory to make them water repellent (hydrophobic). While the coating is effective, it also wears off and as such is recommended to be renewed/maintained with impregnating agents.
