The Silca Nastro Cuscino handlebar tape is 3.75 mm thick, yet its comfort, thanks to technology, rivals tapes that are 5 mm thick.
By using a laminate of SILCAthane, SILCAlon, and 3M Visco-elastic adhesive instead of a single foam extrusion, the tape can be optimized for a wide range of desired properties. The resulting tape is softer and more comfortable, has higher grip in both wet and dry conditions, better vibration isolation, and lasts 3–5 times longer than other tape materials.
Applying the tape is just as important as the wrap itself, which is why Silca developed a "butterfly" with a fully adhesive backing – it covers the back better and is finished with an aluminum end cap.
The technologies are inspired by running shoes, F1 tires, and Silca’s own research into damping.
