In-Mold technology can be found most often in bicycle and ski helmets. The principle consists in injecting compressed polystyrene into a polycarbonate shell at high temperatures and pressures (approx. 330°C). This connection ensures high strength at very low weight. Polystyrene absorbs energy in the event of an impact, but it deforms, which is why the helmet must be replaced after a major impact. Helmets produced by In-Mold technology and associated have a weight of 350-550 g.
HI-EPS stands for High Expanded Polystyrene. The internal of the in-mold Alpina helmets are made of HI-EPS. These are very small beads of a special polystyrene in which a robust process gives rise to the internal shell of the helmet. This material does not absorb sweat or water. If damaged (e.g. after a fall), the helmet must no longer be used, as it is beyond repair! The Run System Ergo Flex is the lightest, most comfortable adjustment system offered by Alpina. The delicate design clings evenly to the head and thus increases protection. The Run System Ergo Flex can be adjusted using fine increments.
