Kona 36e Lava Dome mountain bike White

Description

The Kona 36e Lava Dome mountain bike in White is a rigid 29er MTB built for riding forest roads, gravel, and easier trails. In concept, it sits in an affordable performance category with an emphasis on functional components and easy maintenance. It’s designed for riders who want a hardtail with a 1x drivetrain and hydraulic disc brakes.

Frame and geometry

The foundation is a frame made from Kona 6061 Aluminum Butted alloy, combining sensible weight with durability for everyday trail use. The frame is designed for 29" wheels and a suspension fork with 100 mm travel. The geometry aims for balanced handling in technical sections and stability at higher speeds on rough surfaces. The White colorway keeps a clean, technical look without distracting elements.

Components

Drivetrain: The shifting is based on Microshift Advent 9spd in a 1x9 configuration. A Microshift Advent 11–46-tooth cassette works with Samox cranks and a KMC X9 chain.

Brakes: Tektro HDM275 hydraulic disc brakes provide consistent modulation in wet conditions and on loose surfaces. The Tektro TR180 rotors measure 180 mm up front and 160 mm at the rear.

Wheels and tires: The wheels are built around Alex DP27K rims and Joytech hubs—100x9 mm front and 135x10 mm rear. Tires are WTB Trail Boss or Maxxis Rekons 29x2.25".

Cockpit: The Kona XC saddle is aimed at a sporty riding position for longer rides off tarmac. The Kona Thumb 31.6 mm seatpost matches the common standard for rigid mountain frames.

Ride characteristics

The combination of 29" wheels and a butted aluminum frame supports efficient riding on flat terrain and confidence on rough gravel. The 100 mm front suspension helps hold the line through roots and on rocky ground. The 1x9 gearing with an 11–46-tooth range offers a usable spread for climbs as well as faster transfers. Hydraulic brakes with a 180 mm front rotor increase control during prolonged braking on descents.

Who it’s for

This hardtail is intended for more experienced recreational riders as well as those who want a simple, easy-to-read setup without a front derailleur. Typical use includes training loops, marathon rides in lighter terrain, and everyday riding on forest roads. Compared to bikes with a 2x drivetrain, it focuses on simpler operation and a cleaner chainline.
