The Silca Nastro Cuscino handlebar tape is 3.75 mm thick, yet thanks to technology, it matches the comfort of 5 mm thick tapes.
By using a combination of SILCAthane, SILCAlon, and 3M visco-elastic adhesive instead of a single foam extrusion, the tape can be optimized for a range of desired properties. The resulting tape is softer and more comfortable, has better grip in both wet and dry conditions, improved vibration isolation, and lasts 3–5 times longer than other tape materials.
Applying the tape is as important as the tape itself, which is why Silca developed a "butterfly" with a full adhesive backing—it better covers the backside and is finished with an aluminum end cap.
The technologies are inspired by running shoes, F1 tires, and Silca’s own damping research activities.
