The Silca Nastro Cuscino handlebar tape is 3.75 mm thick, yet it matches the comfort of 5 mm tapes thanks to its technology.
By using a laminate made of SILCAthane, SILCAlon, and 3M Visco-elastic adhesive instead of a single foam extrusion, the tape can be optimized across a range of desired properties. The resulting tape is softer and more comfortable, has higher grip both wet and dry, better vibration insulation, and a lifespan 3–5 times longer than other tape materials.
Applying the tape is as important as the wrap itself, so Silca developed a "butterfly" with a fully adhesive backing—it better covers the back and is finished with an aluminum end cap.
The technologies are inspired by running shoes, F1 tires, and Silca's own research into damping.
