The Silca Nastro Cuscino handlebar tape is 2.5 mm thick, yet thanks to its technology, it provides comfort comparable to 5 mm thick tapes.
The technologies are inspired by running shoes, F1 tires, and Silca's own research in damping.
By using a laminate of SILCAthane, SILCAlon, and 3M visco-elastic adhesive instead of a single foam extrusion, the tape can be optimized for a range of desirable properties.
The resulting tape is softer and more comfortable, offers better grip both wet and dry, improves vibration isolation, and has a 3–5x longer lifespan than other tape materials.
Applying the tape is as crucial as the handlebar tape itself, which is why Silca developed a "butterfly" with a fully adhesive backing – it better covers the back, and is finished with an aluminum end cap.
