The Maxxis Rekon Race is a fast semi-slick tire that borrows its tread pattern from the trail-focused Rekon, but with smaller and wider tread knobs. Its ideal use is as a rear tire paired with a more aggressive front tire or used both front and rear for racing on dry surfaces or short tracks.
New MaxxSpeed (2023) is a premium rubber compound for XC racing. It is a high silica compound that reduces rolling resistance while improving wet traction. Compared to the previous 3C MaxxSpeed, the new compound has approximately 25% less rolling resistance under laboratory conditions. Real-world testing shows that the new compound can save up to a minute over the course of a 90-minute race.
Tubeless tyres have many advantages: you can ride with less air pressure. This gives you better traction and reduces rolling resistance.
And where there is no tube, it also reduces the risk of punctures. Maxxis TR tires are better prepared to be mounted with sealant than other "tubeless" tires. The bead of TR tires is completely covered with a rubber layer like a true tubeless UST tire.
Wide Trail (WT) construction optimizes the tread pattern and profile of the tire on today's modern wider rims. Traditional tires are designed around older, narrower rims and can create an overly square tire profile, resulting in less than optimal performance. WT tires are optimized for 35mm inner rim widths, but have been proven to work in the 30-35mm inner rim width range. Maxxis Wide Trail XC tires are optimized for use with 30mm inner rims, but will work well on rims as narrow as 25mm. Maxxis does not recommend rims wider than 30 mm or narrower than 25 mm.
