Shimano is number one in components and used to be number one in drivetrains. Stagnation has resulted in a slight underperformance behind the competition. However, this has changed with the arrival of the new EP8 and EP6 motors. The EP6 makes the most torque like most of the competition at 85Nm. The engine offers a quieter and more compact operation and less resistance when pedalling. Compared to the competition, the EP8 is the most compact in terms of size and allows for the most customizable assists of any motor brand offered - all through the Shimano E-Tube app. The difference from the EP8 is the retention of an aluminium motor interior versus magnesium.
