Academy Grade 4 is a lightweight 20" children's bike with quality components. Suitable for children between 115 and 130 cm in height and ages 6 to 8 years old.
The weight of the bike significantly affects how much kids enjoy their ride. A quality children's bike must be lightweight and easily adjustable. This is why the bike weighs only 8.1 kg and is equipped with quality components. The lowered top tube makes it easier for children to get on and off.
Stem
The patented Syntace Vario stem grows with the child both in height and length. It is smoothly adjustable and 100% stable in every position.
Q-Factor
The Q-factor describes the overall width of the cranks and plays an important role in pedaling efficiency. Ideally, the Q-factor of the bike should match the rider's natural step width. A smaller Q-factor is more ergonomic, whereas an excessively large Q-factor forces the legs into an "X" shape while pedaling. This impedes ergonomic and smooth pedaling, potentially leading to knee pain and quick fatigue. Academy bikes have one of the smallest Q-factors on the market, making them ideally designed for children.
Saddle
The flat saddle provides maximum support and prevents slipping off. The optimal saddle cover (neither too soft nor too hard) prevents sinking in and provides a comfortable and secure seating position, enhancing comfort and joy while riding!
Tires
Because Academy children's bikes focus on the power-to-weight ratio for kids, they feature lightweight and narrow VEE TIRE Rail tires. Their tread pattern is ideal for both city riding and gravel roads. Moreover, they look good and provide essential visibility in traffic with reflective strips.
Designed by SCOOL
The developers of Academy bikes, in collaboration with the German Institute for Orthopedics, Osteopathy, and Sports Medicine (DIOOS) led by Dr. Andreas Elsner, have successfully developed ultralight children's bikes that meet the latest ergonomic requirements. All models are lighter than 40% of the average child's weight, and frames with low and narrow bottom brackets enable smooth pedaling for children. Short cranks and an upright seating position allow kids to always reach the ground while also ensuring an ergonomic knee position when riding.
