The Academy Grade 4 is a lightweight 20" children's bike with high-quality components. Suitable for children from 115 to 130 cm tall, aged 6 to 8 years.
The weight of the bike greatly affects how much kids enjoy riding. A quality children's bike must be lightweight and easily adjustable. This bike weighs only 7.5 kg and is equipped with premium components. The lowered top tube makes it easier for kids to get on and off.
Stem
The patented Syntace Vario stem grows with children both in height and length. It is smoothly adjustable and 100% stable in any position.
Q-factor
The Q-factor describes the overall width of the cranks and plays a crucial role in pedaling efficiency. Ideally, the Q-factor should match the natural step width of the rider. A smaller Q-factor is more ergonomic, while a too-large Q-factor forces the legs into an "X" shape when pedaling. This prevents ergonomically correct, smooth pedaling, which can lead to knee pain and rapid fatigue. Academy bikes have one of the smallest Q-factors on the market and are therefore ideally designed for children.
Saddle
The flat saddle provides maximum support and prevents slipping off. An optimal saddle cover (neither too soft nor too hard) prevents sinking and provides a comfortable and secure seating position, enhancing comfort and joy in riding!
Tires
Because Academy children's bikes pay attention to the power-to-weight ratio for kids, they are equipped with lightweight and narrow VEE TIRE Rail tires. Thanks to their tread pattern, they are ideal for both city riding and gravel paths. They also look good and offer needed visibility in traffic thanks to reflective strips.

The developers at Academy Bikes, in collaboration with the German Institute for Orthopedics, Osteopathy, and Sports Medicine (DIOOS) under the guidance of Dr. Andreas Elsner, succeeded in developing ultra-lightweight children's bikes that meet the latest ergonomic demands. All models weigh less than 40% of the average child's weight, and frames with low and narrow bottom brackets allow for easy pedaling. Short cranks and an upright seating position always ensure feet can reach the ground while maintaining an ergonomic knee position when riding.
