HI-EPS stands for High Expanded Polystyrene. The internal of the in-mold Alpina helmets are made of HI-EPS. These are very small beads of a special polystyrene in which a robust process gives rise to the internal shell of the helmet. This material does not absorb sweat or water. If damaged (e.g. after a fall), the helmet must no longer be used, as it is beyond repair! It should be noted that shock absorption is not only ensured by the HI-EPS material, but also by the overall construction of the helmet. If the bicycle helmet is used "every day", it is recommended to replace it after about 4 years.
