The new Continental GrandPrix 5000 is here. The GP5000 tire is made from a 3-ply material with a TPI of 3/330 and has been improved with the Black Chili compound.
Innovation hasn’t passed by the Vectran Breaker safety belt either. Puncture protection has been increased by 20% while the weight has been reduced by 10 g. With the new model, the designers also managed to reduce rolling resistance by 12% compared to the GrandPrix 4000 S II.
Two new features have also been added, such as Active Comfort Technology, designed to absorb vibrations, and Lazer Grip, providing better grip in corners.
The tire is available in widths of 23, 25, 28, 30, 32 mm.
Top level compound with a perfectly balanced ratio of grip, rolling resistance and durability. It is composed of refined synthetic rubber and natural rubber, to which additives forming a special surface are added. This mixture is produced exclusively at the Korbach plant in Germany.
Vectran is a synthetically produced high-tech fiber based on liquid crystalline polymer (LCP). Vectran is spun from molten liquid Vectra polymer and further processed into multi-strand yarn. Spider silk, like Vectran, has enormous tear resistance at a very low weight: exactly the right properties to be processed into a premium Continental bicycle tire as a puncture protection liner. Vectran Breaker is lighter, more flexible and protects against cuts more effectively than comparable nylon fiber and does not adversely affect rolling resistance.
