The Kona Kahuna DL mountain bike in size M is a rigid 29er built for cross-country and fast trail riding. It sits in the mid-performance category, where the balance of weight, spec, and functionality is key. It’s designed for riders who want a modern hardtail frame with a 1x drivetrain and an air fork.
The frame is made from Kona Race Light 6061 Aluminum Butted alloy. Shaped tubes with variable wall thickness focus on stiffness while keeping weight reasonable. The concept is aimed at sporty cross-country riding, where pedaling efficiency matters. Size M is part of the size range S, M, L, and XL.
Drivetrain: Shimano SLX shifting in a 1x12 configuration is paired with a Shimano XT rear derailleur. A Shimano Deore 10–51T cassette and Shimano Deore cranks with a 32-tooth chainring work with a Shimano 73 mm bottom bracket.
Brakes: Shimano SLX hydraulic disc brakes use Shimano RT54 rotors with centerlock mounting. The front rotor is 180 mm and the rear is 160 mm.
Wheels and tires: WTB ST i27 TCS 2.0 rims are laced to Shimano hubs with 110x15 mm and 148x12 mm axles. Maxxis Rekon EXO TR DUAL tires are sized 29x2.25".
Cockpit: Kona XC/BC Riser handlebars and a Kona XC stem put the rider in a sporty position for precise front-wheel control. A WTB Volt saddle is paired with a Kona Thumb seatpost with 31.6 mm offset and Kona Key Grip grips.
The RockShox Sid SL Select DebonAir air fork with 100 mm travel supports fast riding in rough terrain and holds its line under braking. The rigid aluminum frame transfers power directly, which you’ll notice during acceleration and on climbs. The 1x12 setup speeds up gear selection, and with a 10–51T cassette you can keep your cadence even on steeper pitches. The i27 rim width stabilizes the 2.25" tire, so the bike feels confident in corners and over roots.
The bike is suitable for experienced riders who want a hardtail XC bike with a modern 29" wheel size and Boost axles. It’s at home in marathons, on fast trails, and on all-day off-road rides. Compared with cheaper hardtails, it offers a lighter, sportier build and Shimano SLX components with a Shimano XT derailleur.
