Popular racing all-rounder Continental Race King has been significantly improved for the 2019 season.
The biggest change is the tubeless-ready feature even in this economical line of tires known as Performance. The construction of the Race King tire now consists of a carcass with a density of 3/180 TPI, meaning 60 TPI in each layer.
The tire compound is the versatile PureGrip, which rolls very well and holds perfectly even on wet surfaces.
The tire size is 29x2.20" with a weight of 750 g.
The technology based on activated silica compounds called PureGrip was developed at Continental's German center in Korbach and ranks right behind the top BlackChili Compound. The compound is used in performance products in both road and mountain bike tires. Tires with Pure Grip Compound provide great grip, high durability and mileage. They are manufactured at the Continental factory in He-fei, China.
This system is an optimal combination of low rolling resistance, puncture protection and low weight. Additional puncture protection is provided by a tightly woven fabric. Despite this feature, the tire is very flexible with good shock absorption. This technology goes hand in hand with tubeless Kevlar tire beads.
Tubeless rims and tires have a design adapted for tubeless use, provided they are supplemented with sealant, tape and valves. Tubeless tires provide the rider with many benefits - the ability to run the tire with lower air pressure, which improves traction, lower rolling resistance compared to a tube tire, and less chance of a puncture. We can most often come across names such as Tubeless Ready (TR or TLR), Tubeless Easy (TLE) or Tubeless Compatible (TC), etc. Despite different branding from manufacturers, the essence of the system is the same.
