Giant Fathom E+ 2 L Gunmetal Black is a trail e-mountain bike on 29" wheels, built for riders who want support on long climbs and stability on descents. It sits in the mid-performance class of hardtails, where the key focus is the balance between motor output, battery capacity, and the durability of the components. It’s well suited to sporty riding off-road, from fast forest roads to technical trails.
The frame is made from ALUXX SL aluminum alloy and uses a 148x12 mm thru-axle for increased rear-end stiffness. The Overdrive 1.5"–1.8" head tube is designed for precise tracking and compatibility with forks featuring a tapered steerer. The design allows for mounting a KSA40 kickstand and an EnergyPak Plus add-on battery as a range extender. Suspension is handled by the SR Suntour XCR 34 Boost with a coil spring and 130 mm of travel.
Drivetrain: Shimano Cues LinkGlide shifting offers 9 speeds and is built for durability under the higher loads of an e-bike. The Shimano Cues CS-LG300-9 cassette has an 11–46 range, paired with a 36-tooth chainring on FSA Comet cranks.
Brakes: Tektro HD-M285 hydraulic disc brakes use 180 mm rotors front and rear. Modulation is well matched to trail use and the higher weight of an e-bike.
Wheels and tires: Giant XCT 29 Tubeless Ready wheels with a 25 mm internal width are designed to handle e-bike loads. Maxxis Rekon 29x2.4" tires support fast rolling and confident grip on dry and mixed surfaces.
Cockpit: Giant Connect TR Riser handlebars are 750 mm wide in size S and 780 mm in sizes M–XXL. The Giant Contact Switch Adj dropper seatpost in a 30.9 mm diameter makes it easier to manage your center of gravity in technical terrain.
A hardtail with 29" wheels holds its line at higher speeds and smooths out small bumps better, which you’ll notice on gravel as well as rough forest roads. The combination of Boost axles and a stiffer front end improves steering precision under braking and through compressions. The Giant SyncDrive Sport2 motor with 75 Nm of torque helps you maintain cadence on long climbs and reduces the time spent in the lowest gears. Smart Assist adjusts support based on pedaling force, acceleration, and incline sensors, so pace changes feel smooth.
This bike is aimed at more experienced riders who want electric assistance for sporty trails but prefer the simplicity of a hardtail. It works well for all-day rides in hilly terrain as well as fast transfers between trail sections. Compared to full-suspension e-bikes, it offers a more direct power transfer and easier maintenance, at the cost of less comfort in rocky sections.
The Taiwanese company founded in 1972 focusing on bicycles began manufacturing them first in its home country of Taiwan and then in Europe, North America and other countries. Innovations are inherent to Giant - in 1987, it introduced the CADEX, the first mass-produced carbon road bike. Today, Giant is one of the largest bicycle manufacturers worldwide, their bikes can be found in professional cycling, but they don't forget about amateur riders. Electric bikes use a Yamaha engine, but Giant modifies it themselves using their own technologies. Giant also has its own section of bikes for women - the Liv.
State-of-the-art aluminum material is made predominantly from 6011 alloy and delivers best-in-class strength-to-weight ratios. These framesets also feature unique welding technologies for a high-performance ride quality.
SyncDrive Sport featuring Smart Assist technology is a compact motor developed by Yamaha to deliver a smooth and quiet ride for your bike. The engine delivers high horsepower even at low speeds. Smart Assist technology calculates the amount of torque, cadence, slope and speed and uses these numbers to determine how much power the engine can add. This engine also supports higher cadences and has a quick onset of torque, so it is an engine that can handle both more brisk riding on the flat and more demanding terrain with steep climbs.
