Cielo – professional performance for road and gravel.
Road cyclists and gravel enthusiasts deserve equipment that meets professional standards. The Cielo model combines top-notch technology, comfort, and a distinctive style that has long set the Giro brand apart from the competition. The design is inspired by the Aries model and also references iconic helmets like the Aeon.
The compact construction is designed with an emphasis on maximum ventilation – 22 vent openings are connected with deep internal channels that efficiently dissipate heat and ensure a comfortable climate even at high speed. The integrated MIPS Evolve Core system enhances protection against rotational forces during impact and works in conjunction with the premium Roc Loc® 5 Air fit system for perfect positioning on the head.
Strength and safety are supported by the In-mold construction complemented by the internal Thermoformed SL Roll Cage™ reinforcement, which increases structural resistance without unnecessary weight increase.
Everyday comfort is ensured by antibacterial Ionic+™ padding, practical integrated Eyewear Grippers for glasses, and reflective elements for better visibility.
In-Mold technology can be found most often in bicycle and ski helmets. The principle consists in injecting compressed polystyrene into a polycarbonate shell at high temperatures and pressures (approx. 330°C). This connection ensures high strength at very low weight. Polystyrene absorbs energy in the event of an impact, but it deforms, which is why the helmet must be replaced after a major impact. Helmets produced by In-Mold technology and associated have a weight of 350-550 g.
Mips is a technology in the form of a special yellow insert inside the helmet, which has the task of reducing rotational forces acting on the head and brain in the event of a crash or fall while riding a bicycle. In principle, Mips works between two layers of the helmet shell, which rotate in relation to each other during a fall. This technology is being used by more and more major and minor helmet manufacturers, so if a helmet has this technology, you can tell by the small yellow logo on the outside of the helmet. Currently there are about 5 kinds of Mips system.
Helmet sizing system. It's most easily identified by the simple and effective rear thumb-turn knob, which improved fit over the older two-button system and allowed Giro to reduce weight. Despite its minimalist design, the Roc Loc 5 is durable.
