A lightweight helmet that provides full protection for demanding descents. Weighing just 800 grams, this NTA certified MTB helmet still offers effective protection thanks to Spherical Technology Powered by MIPS. This unique system, developed by the Giro brand in collaboration with MIPS, works on a joint principle – the helmet consists of two parts (hemispheres) connected by elastomers, which slide over each other like a joint. This allows the outer layer to rotate around the inner layer in the event of an impact, thereby reducing the forces that would otherwise act directly on the brain. This construction solution completely replaces the classic plastic MIPS insert used by MIPS helmets without Spherical technology. Additionally, there's Progressive Layering technology, which involves two different hardness levels for the outer and inner layers. While the outer layer made of EPS foam is harder and ready to absorb impacts at high speeds, the inner layer of EPP foam is softer and has rebound properties to maximize impact absorption at lower speeds.
The Coalition Spherical helmet also boasts ventilation comparable to some road helmets from other brands. It utilizes large air intakes at the front along with efficient rear ventilation openings, connected by deep internal channels.
The Halo system connects the chin guard with the Pebax material (a material designed to provide the perfect range of flexibility and stiffness) and elastomer pads integrated into the EPS, which absorb and dissipate kinetic forces. The result is a helmet that nearly doubles the standard chin guard deformation certification. With antibacterial Ionic+ liners and two sets of interchangeable cheek pads for perfect fitting, the Coalition Spherical helmet sets a new standard for lightweight full protection without compromising comfort.
In-Mold technology can be found most often in bicycle and ski helmets. The principle consists in injecting compressed polystyrene into a polycarbonate shell at high temperatures and pressures (approx. 330°C). This connection ensures high strength at very low weight. Polystyrene absorbs energy in the event of an impact, but it deforms, which is why the helmet must be replaced after a major impact. Helmets produced by In-Mold technology and associated have a weight of 350-550 g.
Mips is a technology in the form of a special yellow insert inside the helmet, which has the task of reducing rotational forces acting on the head and brain in the event of a crash or fall while riding a bicycle. In principle, Mips works between two layers of the helmet shell, which rotate in relation to each other during a fall.
